Vehicle emissions
Since Euro 0 engines, reductions in vehicle emissions have progressed at an impressive rate. From Euro I levels introduced in 1993, today’s Euro VI vehicles have reduced emissions of around 95 per cent NOx and 97 per cent particulate matter (PM). Certain cities such as London impose Low Emission Zones or intend on doing so in the future based on the Euro status of a vehicle’s engine. This means owners and operators may face charges to enter certain zones if their vehicles do not meet the required standards.
Latest Euro standards
Euro VI for heavy engine vehicles was introduced for all newly registered vehicles from 31 December 2013, which reduces emissions from previous Euro V levels by around 80 per cent for NOx, and 67 per cent for PM.
