Trailer Inspection and Defect Assessment

This course is designed to equip and develop trailer inspection technicians with the relevant information and skills to raise trailer inspection standards.

The course also gives the required knowledge to candidates wishing to undertake the irtec trailer inspection licence underpinning knowledge test and practical assessment.

 

Who should attend?

Trailer maintenance staff responsible for preventative maintenance safety inspections (PMI) or annual test preparation. The course focuses on the DVSA testing standards manual, primarily aimed at the sections covering trailer inspection standards.

In attending the course the candidate will have increased knowledge of legislation giving the required skills to correctly assess trailer defects, boost confidence and thus allow informed decisions on defecting components which lessens premature replacement.


Course content

  • This course begins with a test to establish delegates’ base knowledge, followed by a detailed look at the DVSA’s HGV tester’s manual (sections only applicable to trailers). This is followed by a final written test and a practical demonstration on trailer inspection techniques. This will give the candidate the required practical know-how to undertake the irtec practical assessment.
