Mechanical Handling Equipment Inspections

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), place duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over work equipment, whether owned by them or not. It is designed to control and prevent workers risk of injury and death from equipment they use during the course of their jobs.

Lifting equipment inspections fall under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), which are governed by HSE.

LOLER requires lifting equipment to be examined:

• At least six months in the case of attachments or lifting people.
• At least every 12 months in the case of other lifting equipment.
• Avery time an exceptional circumstance arises that jeopardises safety.
