Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulation (LOLER) Inspections

These inspections focus on the operation and mechanics of lifting equipment and includes tail lifts, lorry mounted cranes, bin lifts and demountable body systems.

Lifting Equipment Inspections

Safe and successful lifting operations depend on the continued safety of the lifting equipment and accessories. Failures in this kind of equipment can result in significant or even fatal injuries. Health and safety law therefore places a number of specific obligations on those providing, controlling and using lifting equipment to properly manage these risks. In addition to the requirements for safe design and construction, all lifting equipment should also be checked and maintained as necessary to keep it safe for use.

Lifting equipment inspections fall under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) obligations and the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), which are governed by HSE.

LOLER requires lifting equipment to be examined:

  • At least six months in the case of lifting people, attachments and accessories to lifting.
  • At least every 12 months in the case of other lifting equipment.
  • Every time an exceptional circumstance arises that jeopardises safety.

Our inspections cover the following types of lifting equipment:

  • Tail lifts.
  • Lorry loaders.
  • Refuse equipment - bin lifts, skip loaders, hook loaders.
  • High lift access platform - aircraft service vehicles.
  • Lifting accessories - webbing/chain slings, bars, pins.
  • Winches.
