Totally Local Company case study
Totally Local Company is a facilities management company based in Stockport. The business operates over 130 vehicles providing street cleaning, refuse collection, parks and recreation and maintenance services. The fleet includes Refuse Collection Vehicles, Tippers, Street Cleaners, Trucks and Vans.
As part of the businesses overall green agenda and drive to reduce CO2 emissions, the Totally Local management team asked Logistics UK Supply Chain Consultancy to review the existing fleet, the daily demands placed upon that fleet and the practical options available to them. The data collection included fleet details, age profile, replacement plans, fuel use and mileage expectations, payloads and productivity for each individual piece of equipment. The Logistics UK Supply Chain Consultancy team worked with data sourced from multiple areas in order to create a single database that reflected every piece of equipment in the fleet.
Once the fleet profile had been developed and agreed the team identified options for decarbonisation, the associated ‘availability’ and risks represented by migrating to a new vehicle type and the high level timescales for migration.
The alternatives fuels market is developing rapidly, with new equipment options appearing almost monthly so the roll out plan needed to reflect current options but also be adaptable should newer, more suitable variants become available.
David Hughes, Chief Executive at Totally Local Company, said “the team at Logistics UK were able to quickly grasp our requirements and, with data from across our business, pull together a complete fleet profile that enabled them, and us, to consider options for decarbonisation and develop a plan that takes us through to 2030. Whilst Net Zero seems a long way off, we can now confidently say we have a plan which we are working towards to quickly lessen our impact on the environment using appropriate technologies”
Paul Wilson from Logistics UK Supply Chain Consultancy added “the team at Totally Local were great to work with. Our experience and ability to pull the data together, combined with their in-depth knowledge of the operations and demands placed on each piece of equipment coupled with our shared knowledge of the EV and alternative fuels options meant that the complex task of preparing a roadmap to reduce Totally Local Company’s CO2 emissions was completed in a relatively short period of time.
It’s always great when we help Logistics UK members meet their business objectives and move towards Net Zero.”
