FTA recognises work of Menzies Distribution with Roadworthiness Award

Menzies Distribution has received a 2018 Roadworthiness Award from the Freight Transport Association.  The award recognises the organisation's high standards when maintaining its fleet of vehicles and trailers and controlling safety related defects. 

FTA is the only organisation in the UK that represents all of logistics, with more than 16,000 members. It also provides vehicle inspection services to organisations keen to achieve the very highest levels of safety and compliance.

FTA's Roadworthiness Awards highlight its members' efforts in maintaining their fleets to the highest standards. They also recognise excellent levels of vehicle safety, condition and maintenance and are designed to encourage and reward best practice in compliance with vehicle condition legislation.

Announcing the award, FTA’s Contract Manager for Scotland, David Wylie said:

“FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service has been supporting Menzies Distribution with compliance audits since 2005, and I’m delighted to present this prestigious Roadworthiness Award to Menzies Distribution once again, in recognition of the excellence it continues to achieve in vehicle safety and its commitment to maintaining the best standards of compliance and vehicle condition. This award reflects the very high benchmark set by Menzies Distribution and I would like to congratulate Menzies management team, winner Robert Sproull and everyone involved in helping to ensure their fleet is safe, legal and efficient at all times.”

Established in 1833, Menzies Distribution is a time-critical logistics business with more than 50 depot locations across the UK and Ireland. They specialise in retail delivery, carrying fast news products and travel brochures to tens of thousands of locations every day, alongside parcel and freight logistics, which they operate throughout Scotland and into the rest of the UK via their partner networks

Robert Sproull, Transport Manager, at MLS North in Glasgow said; “I’m delighted to receive this prestigious award, and want to thank every member of my team for their efforts in helping MLS North to secure it; it has been a great team effort by all involved. On a personal note, it feels fantastic to reach a goal we have been striving for since the inception of this award in 2008.”

Established in 1889, FTA’s members operate more than half of the UK’s HGV fleet, are responsible for more than 90% of freight moved by rail, and 70% of the UK’s sea and air freight. The UK logistics sector employs more than 2.5M people (almost 10% of the UK workforce), and by Keeping Britain Trading directly has an impact on every aspect of daily life.
