Van Excellence wins prestigious Prince Michael safety award
Thursday 15 December 2016
The Freight Transport Association’s Van Excellence scheme has received a prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for achievement and innovation in road safety at a special ceremony at The Savoy in London on Tuesday (13 December).
FTA’s Chief Executive, David Wells and Head of Vans, Mark Cartwight, attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the Association.
His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent established his awards scheme in 1987 in the UK and now fully international, the Awards recognise the most outstanding road safety schemes around the world.
Mark Cartwright said: “We’re delighted to be recognised with what is one of the most prestigious awards in our industry. Van Excellence has, with the commitment of many of the UK’s leading van fleet operators, become an aspirational goal for fleets of all sizes and sectors. Its straightforward and practical approach, focusing on safety and compliance, recognises operator excellence as well as providing a framework for improvement.”
Van Excellence promotes high standards of van operation and driving by accrediting operators against an industry code of good practice. The scheme is aimed at raising compliance levels across the sector by setting high standards and sharing best practice, professionalising the industry and moving away from the traditional ‘white van man’ image.
