Judging takes place for Logistics Carbon Reduction Awards 2015

Thursday 02 April 2015

The judging for this year’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) Awards has taken place and the Freight Transport Association says that the standard of entries is higher than ever.  The Awards, which celebrate the efforts made by individual scheme members to reduce their carbon emissions from freight activity, will be presented at FTA’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Conference on 13 May.

The conference, sponsored by Bridgestone, DAF Trucks, Intermodality and PTV Group, is an interactive event aimed at providing essential advice to fleet operators on meeting the climate change challenge as pressure increases from government, customers and the wider public for businesses to act.

There are six awards categories for 2015 including one new category specifically for those companies within the LCRS membership that have smaller fleets but nevertheless the same ambition as larger operators to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The Awards categories are:

  • Fuel efficient operator of the year (sponsored by Bridgestone)
  • Leader in logistics carbon reduction (sponsored by DAF Trucks)
  • Excellence in modal shift (sponsored by Intermodality)
  • Smaller fleet operator of the year (sponsored by PTV Group)
  • Logistics carbon innovator of the year
  • Green fuel and technology operator of the year

On the calibre of the LCRS Awards 2015, Theo de Pencier, FTA’s Chief Executive and Head Judge said:

“Absolutely terrific, this is the third year of the Awards and every year the calibre of the entries and the spread of entries from different sectors of industry has just got better and better. Overall, I think that the Awards reinforce the importance of sustainability and if you can get that right, it is both efficiency and sustainability that improves."

One of the Judges, Maja Piecyk, Associate Professor in Logistics, Heriot-Watt University and Deputy Director of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight, commented on the importance of the Awards:

“I think for the industry they are extremely important – they recognise the efforts companies make to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, but they also set a good example for others who are looking to engage with carbon reduction schemes. The LCRS is forward thinking and extremely important for the freight industry.”

The Logistics Carbon Reduction Conference will be held on 13 May 2015 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, West Midlands.
