Updated FTA Drivers' Handbook now available

Friday 07 June 2013

An updated edition of the Freight Transport Association’s Drivers' Handbook, the indispensable guide for professional truck drivers, is now available.

The Drivers' Handbook was first published by FTA in the 1960s and is an invaluable work of reference worthy of a place in every vehicle cab. With the increasing volume of vehicles on the road and regulations that need to be observed making life more and more difficult for the professional driver, the aim of the handbook is to help drivers do their job safely and responsibly. It is not intended to be an exhaustive guide to road transport law but aims to cut through the legal jargon in the areas that most affect the driver’s work.

Written by FTA specialists, the book includes sections relating to legal compliance, including licences, hours regulations, tachographs and vehicle condition; advice on accident management, breakdowns and vehicle theft; driving best practice, fuel efficiency and telematics; and fatigue, health and safety.

The new version, sponsored by Mercedes Benz Trucks and Bridgestone Tyres, contains fresh information on current legislation and new sections on PCNs, load security, roadside checks and driver conduct. In addition there is new information relating to driving best practice, reversing, urban driving, coupling and uncoupling and weather conditions.

The FTA Drivers' Handbook is available from Shopfta at £6.75 a copy for FTA members and £8.00 for non-members. Substantial discounts are available for multiple purchases, and book covers can also be personalised with your own company branding for bulk orders.
