FTA Ireland strengthens management team as membership and services grow

Tuesday 27 March 2012

FTA Ireland has appointed Tom Wilson as General Manager for the new and growing voice of Irish logistics. Wilson is currently Head of Policy for the Freight Transport Association, based in Belfast and will retain his current responsibilities.

Wilson will take responsibility for the fast growing trade body and join Business Services Manager Aidan Flynn, Head of Policy Declan McKeon and Office Manager Brian Markey based at the organisation's offices in Dublin. He has been instrumental in the establishment and successful launch of FTA Ireland since its inception in 2010.

Wilson has many years' experience in transport policy in both the North and South of Ireland, having served for four years on the All Ireland Freight Forum that liaises over cross-border and common policy issues.

FTA Ireland's membership now exceeds 50 companies and business services are expanding rapidly, with vehicle inspection, tachograph analysis and training courses now available. Earlier this month FTA Ireland launched its own terms and conditions of carriage and announced the first accredited members under its membership accreditation scheme. An online members' Shop for transport consumables has also been launched.

Tom Wilson said: "I am looking forward to working with FTA Ireland members to take forward the tremendous opportunity that the new organisation presents. Never before has the need for the voice of responsible logistics needed to be heard more in Ireland and the range of issues confronting operators and logistics buyers north and south means that we are likely to be busy over the coming months. I hope I can bring my experience in the All-Ireland forum to maximise the success for members across the island of Ireland."
