Show logistics some love, says FTA

Thursday 04 February 2010

Few sectors can claim to have as significant an impact on our lives as the logistics sector, without which society as we know it would look very different. That’s why the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is asking the logistics sector to celebrate its enormous successes at its inaugural annual dinner, The Logistics Showcase.

Jo Tanner of the FTA said:

“From modest owner operators to the largest international couriers, they all have one thing in common: they work exceptionally hard to keep the country running. However, because of the no-nonsense and seamless way they go about their daily work, their collective lights are often kept hidden under a bushel. Not any more.

“For one night of the year we are asking the logistics sector to come together at The Logistics Showcase for a chance to celebrate its success and show their love for logistics.”

The Logistics Showcase is set to be the must-attend event in the transport calendar and will include four short films highlighting the positive impact the logistics sector has on the provision of food, entertainment and luxury goods and how it supports our local community. This black tie dinner will take place on Tuesday 13 April, the first night of the CVO Show, at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham, hosted by none other than twinkle-toes himself, John Sergeant.

Tanner concluded:

“Logistics is a massive employer in its own right and without it no other sector would be able to operate. Yet it is often overlooked by politicians and the general public when the plaudits are being handed out.

“With the General Election looming, now is not the time to sit quietly at the back of the classroom and keep our heads down. Having endured the worst recession in living history, we now deserve to start feeling good about ourselves again and, in so doing, put logistics centre stage.”
