Ensure a compliant 2010 with the FTA guide to road transport law

The Freight Transport Association has published the 48th edition of its indispensable guide to road transport law. The Yearbook of Road Transport Law 2010 is designed to keep transport operators fully informed on all aspects of road transport legislation and other relevant areas, such as health and safety.

The 2010 Yearbook, written and compiled by FTA’s team of transport legislation experts, includes details of the new fixed penalty system introduced in May 2009 and used by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and the police in their roadside enforcement, together with details of the new immobilisation and deposit schemes.

From September 2009, HGV drivers have been required to undertake initial and periodic operational training on subjects such as fuel consumption, defensive driving, loading and drivers’ hours rules. This training, known as the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence, is required as well as, rather than instead of, the relevant vocational driving licence. The 2010 Yearbook contains full details of this qualification, together with associated changes to minimum ages for vocational drivers.
