Apprenticeships vital for the future of Scotland's supply chains, says Logistics UK

Monday 07 March 2022

At the start of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2022, Mags Simpson, Head of Policy Engagement at Logistics UK comments:

“Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2022 is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the apprenticeship roles currently available in the nation’s logistics sector; Logistics UK is proud to support the campaign and highlight the vital role apprenticeships play in building our future workforce. But with the sector offering such a diverse range of job opportunities for individuals of all talents and interests, this should be better reflected in the apprenticeship schemes available. Logistics UK continues to work with the Scottish Government to help develop a broader range of apprenticeships, which will help to attract people to our industry where they can start a fantastic career.

“While take up of apprenticeships in Scotland has been impressive historically, in 2020/21, modern apprenticeship starts in Scotland halved from the previous year as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Logistics UK is pleased to see there has been a renewed interest in apprenticeships as the nation moves into recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, and we seek to develop the next generation of logistics workers and ensure supply chains continue to operate effectively. Apprenticeships offer a great way to ‘earn while you learn’ and provide the ideal opening into the world of logistics, one of the most exciting and fulfilling industries which is at the heart of every facet of our economy.”
