Vehicle technology the theme for FTA’s Fleet Engineer Conference

Traffic Commissioner for the West of England, Kevin Rooney will be giving his views on maintaining compliance in today’s technological world at FTA’s popular Fleet Engineer Conference, sponsored by Continental Tyres and Schmitz Cargobull, which is back due to popular demand on 11 June 2019 at the National Agriculture and Exhibition Centre (NAEC) in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. Mr Rooney will present his views on the benefits of new vehicle safety features, and what he sees as the operator’s obligations for ensuring, where safety features are built into their vehicles, that they are maintained effectively.
The key focus of the one-day conference will be on the advancement of vehicle technology and providing engineers with the help and advice they need to enable them to better manage their fleet and maintain their vehicles in a fully compliant condition, now and in the future.
The DVSA will update delegates on what it is doing to ensure its roadside enforcement activities keep up-to-date with developments in technology, and delegates will have the opportunity to hear about the very latest developments in commercial vehicle technology, maintenance legislation changes and best practice advice from leading names across the sector, including Volvo Trucks, Schmitz Cargobull, Continental Tyres, Wincanton, Portland Fuels, BOC and the AA.
Steve Howat, General Manager – Technical Services at Continental Tyres, said: “Tyre pressure is a crucial factor in the day-to-day running of any commercial fleet and I’m looking forward to talking about this at FTA’s Fleet Engineer Conference. Incorrect tyre pressure leads to excessive tyre wear which, in turn, reduces fleet performance, efficiency and safety. An underinflated tyre creates more rolling resistance, raising fuel consumption and therefore fuel expenses for the fleet. I’ll be looking at technology, specifically tyre pressure monitoring systems like ContiPressureCheck, which provides a significant benefit in this area.”
