Transformative technologies are making this the most exciting time for the logistics sector since the Industrial Revolution, according to former Business Secretary Greg Clark MP. Speaking in an exclusive interview in the first issue of FTA’s relaunched monthly publication, Logistics Magazine, Mr Clark is encouraged by the industry’s willingness to adopt new solutions, and also takes time to reflect on his parliamentary career to date.
With a new mix of in-depth features, topical news and compliance information, the relaunched magazine cements FTA’s position as the leading business organisation for the UK logistics industry. In the Logistics Magazine interview, Clark, who was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in 2016, explains why he believes electrification, hydrogen and autonomous vehicles are set to revolutionise the transport sector, and why the UK is one of the best-placed countries in the world to lead the charge.
Matt Harrington, editor of the magazine, commented: “With a government career spanning nine years – including his role overseeing research and development into the decarbonisation of transport – Greg Clark MP is the perfect person to feature in the first edition of our relaunched magazine.
“The name change represents a step change within FTA; our membership covers all transport modes – air, rail, sea and road – and the companies we speak up for need a business organisation, and a monthly magazine, with a strong multimodal outlook. With the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, environmental pressure, and staff shortages reaching crisis level across the whole of logistics, the industry is set to face some of its toughest economic and political challenges yet. UK PLC needs an organisation that can speak with one strong voice to the government and media and our new-look magazine will provide that outlet for our members.
“With its focus on thought-leadership, breaking news, compliance advice, and legislation updates, I’m so proud of the relaunched title; Logistics Magazine reflects FTA’s diverse membership and their concerns, and we are confident that, in its new guise, the magazine will continue to be an invaluable reference.
“FTA now represents more than 18,000 logistics businesses across all transport modes and is the only association to stand up for the whole sector. We are confident that the new magazine will continue to be as invaluable as its predecessors for those working in or with one of the UK’s most dynamic and exciting sectors, which forms the backbone of the wider economy.”
Subscriptions to Logistics Magazine are open to both members of FTA and non-members, more information is available here: https://fta.co.uk/membership/member-information-services/lmag
Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
