LOGISTICS PARTNER OF THE YEAR – THE VERY ENTERPRISING COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY (VECIC)

Two former teachers were celebrating last autumn when they scooped the coveted Logistics Partner of the Year award, sponsored by Brigade Electronics, for their groundbreaking educational boardgame at the 2019 Logistics Awards ceremony in Central London.

Driven by a passion to help young people connect their learning in the classroom to the world of business, the ex-teachers developed the educational boardgame, Business on the Move, with the specific aim of introducing the next generation to the possibility of a logistics career. It was designed to excite and inspire young people about the ‘wow’ factor of logistics and the supply chain, as well as raise their aspirations and enhance their employability skills.

Working in partnership with 77 principal sponsors, more than 3,500 games have been distributed to UK schools, business customers and universities across five continents. Working with organisations including CILT, Logistics UK, Novus and Think Logistics, The VECIC has over 700 registered users, mostly from educational establishments worldwide, while collaborative relationships with key employers and sponsors have moved the game’s content into internal training programmes for apprentices, graduates and even middle managers at organisations including Clipper and Nestle.

David Wells, Chief Executive of Logistics UK, said: “These finalists represent the ‘best of the best’ of our sector; the businesses and individuals determined to keep Britain trading, both at home and overseas. They have been selected for their outstanding commitment, knowledge and expertise, and represent a wide range of UK companies across transport modes and business sectors. With a record number of entrants this year, each shortlisted business had to fight off very tough competition to secure their place in the final line up, and those who scooped the top prizes are truly at the top of their business games. They should be justly proud of the contribution they are making to both the logistics sector and wider UK economy.”
