Logistics UK calls for major reforms in response to Labour Party consultation

Logistics UK has called for reforms across a host of major policy areas, including infrastructure, decarbonisation and skills, in its recent submission to the Labour National Policy Forum Consultation (17 March 2023).

The National Policy Forum’s role includes shaping the Labour Party’s manifesto for the next general election. In its response to its latest consultation, Logistics UK called for long-term infrastructure plans, a strategic plan for utilising low carbon fuels across transport modes, a faster roll out of public charging points for commercial vehicles and a reform of the Apprenticeship Levy. It also argued that there should be greater recognition of the key service that logistics workers provide and the first-class jobs and career options that the industry offers.

Ben Garratt, Deputy Director – Public Affairs, Logistics UK, (pictured above) said: “The UK’s logistics system is vital for growth, skills, decarbonisation, trade and investment, but a range of barriers need to be overcome to enable the UK’s logistics system to fulfil its potential for UK plc. That is why we have made calls for far-reaching reforms across a range of major policy areas in our submission to the Labour National Policy Forum Consultation.”

It would be good to make the Labour Party aware that water freight is an important transport mode, and should be included in any discussion of transport modes, ie please specify ALL transport modes, because it helps prevent congestion in cities and contributes to the lowering of pollution.
