Vauxhall’s Luton plant will manufacture electric vans in UK from 2025

In positive news for the automotive industry, Vauxhall’s owner, Stellantis, has announced that it will begin making electric vans in its Luton factory next year, securing the future of 1,500 UK jobs at the plant.

Stellantis had threatened to close UK factories if tariffs were imposed on UK-EU exports with a last-minute Westminster and Brussels agreement paving the way for further investment.

The Luton factory will have the capacity to produce 100,000 medium-sized electric vans per year – with a focus on right-hand-drive vans for the UK – including the Vauxhall Vivaro, Peugeot e-Expert, Citroën ë-Dispatch and Fiat E-Scudo.

All these models are built to near-identical designs, but with sales focused on different countries.

Stellantis has already started production of electric vans at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, which saved itself from closure by switching focus from passenger cars to commercial vans.
