Dathlu Logisteg Cymru! (Celebrating Welsh Logistics!)

Logistics UK's annual Welsh Lunch celebrated its 40th anniversary last week at the splendid Cardiff Marriott Hotel.

Josh Fenton, Logistics UK's Policy Manager, who attended the lunch along with Logistics UK's CEO David Wells OBE, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens MP, who spoke about the importance of growth, the government’s trade strategy, and the pivotal role the logistics sector can play.

"Logistics UK published its report, ‘Logistics: underpinning the Welsh economy’ earlier this year, a document outlining how logistics underpins the Welsh economy and we continue to press the Welsh government to create an environment that enables the sector to thrive.

"It was a great opportunity for the Welsh logistics sector to re-engage with old friends, make new acquaintances, swap stories of triumph and recognise the hard work and achievements of the industry," added Fenton.

"The guest speaker for the event was the internationally renowned rugby referee Nigel Owens MBE, who treated the delegates to an entertaining and insightful talk, sharing stories about his career and personal life.

"A big thank you to everyone who attended, and especially to the event sponsor, Watts Truck and Vans, the host, Vincent Brickley of Tandem Transport, and the Welsh Freight Council Chair, Ian Jarman of Owens Group."

News In Brief

DHL and Shell sign SAF deal at Brussels Airport

The one-year deal includes the delivery of 25 kt of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into Brussels via pipeline to the airport.

It is produced in a fossil refinery by replacing fossil crude oil with renewable feedstocks (co-processed SAF) and will be used to offer DHL Express customers emission reduced air transportation services via DHL GoGreen Plus. It is expected to reduce GHG by 80 kt CO2e versus fossil jet-fuel.

Travis Cobb, EVP Global Network Operations and Aviation at DHL Express said: "Our customers benefit from our continuously increasing SAF coverage across different regions, now including our investment in SAF at Brussels Airport.

"Beside efficiency improvements, SAF is currently the most important way to reduce GHG emissions in air transport. Customers can actively contribute to making their supply chains more sustainable by using our GoGreen Plus service based on SAF.

"Our collaboration with DHL at Brussels Airport reflects a joint commitment to reduce emissions from air freight specifically, and across the entire aviation value chain. Working together not only complements their efforts but also helps advance our shared ambitions for a net-zero future."
