National Highways launches autumn T.R.I.P. campaign

The T.R.I.P. campaign is designed to help drivers remember the key actions they need to take before they set out on the strategic road network, particularly on long and unfamiliar journeys.

T.R.I.P stands for:

•    Top-up: fuel/battery, oil and screen-wash

•    Rest: plan your rest stops

•    Inspect: tyre pressure and tread

•    Prepare: for all weather conditions

With weather conditions changing in autumn, the campaign is focusing on the ‘inspect’ element of the T.R.I.P acronym, with a call to action for drivers to check their tyres before setting off.

Tyre issues are the biggest reason for breakdowns on motorways, with over 51,500 tyre related breakdowns on England’s motorways and major A-roads in 2023.

Fleet operators are encouraged to raise awareness of the campaign among drivers and direct them to the campaign page for more information.

News In Brief

Logistics UK public sector members to meet with Scottish Government officials and the Energy Savings Trust

Public sector bodies in Scotland must meet more ambitious targets as we move towards net zero, with a phase out date of 2025 for diesel and electric cars and vans.

Logistics UK’s members in Scotland have frequently raised their concerns over this timeline and the ambiguous wording of the 2019 Programme for Government that set out this phase out date.

Replacing entire fleets with zero emission vehicles by the end of 2025 seems almost impossible given the cost of zero emission vehicles, and the lack of available charging infrastructure makes using zero emission vehicles less attractive than their diesel counterparts. Despite a willingness to decarbonise, the sector is met with restraints in many directions.

With a Climate Change Bill also working its way through the Scottish Parliament, members continue to wonder what lies ahead for fleet decarbonisation in Scotland.

To address these, and other issues, Scottish Government officials and the Energy Savings Trust are meeting with Logistics UK’s public sector members to answer their concerns and queries.

The meeting is open to any public sector member in Scotland. If you want to know more speak to Senior Policy Manager for Scotland, Alexandra Herdman for details of how to join the virtual meeting on 28 October.
