Logistics UK makes key appointments
Logistics UK has recently recruited a Deputy Operations Director and a Head of Public Policy for two newly created positions at the business group.
David Jordan has been recruited for the role of Deputy Operations Director – Services. Jordan was formerly the Director of Education, Training and Qualifications of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, where he was responsible for all levels of training and apprenticeships.
At Logistics UK he will be responsible for the Training and Consultancy and Standards business units.
Chris Lipscomb, Operations Director at Logistics UK, said: “I am delighted to welcome David to the operations team at Logistics UK. With his wealth of training and consultancy experience gained across a broad range of automotive products and services, he is uniquely well placed to drive face-to-face, remote and e-learning delivery across a range of platforms as well as managing large diverse and geographically spread teams. I have every confidence that he will make a full contribution to the future success of Logistics UK’s training and consulting and standards services.”
David Jordan said: “"I am really pleased to have joined Logistics UK and to leverage new opportunities within the existing skilled Logistics UK team. 2021 will be a key year for all businesses and I am really motivated to ensure Logistics UK continues to lead from the front with respect to training, consulting and standards services."
Meanwhile Logistics UK’s policy team has recently recruited Michelle Gardner as its Head of Public Policy.
Gardner joined Logistics UK from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), where she was Environmental Manager for Policy and Climate Change. There she worked on a range of topical issues for the automotive industry, such as the Road to Zero strategy and the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans. Prior to SMMT, Gardner worked for the British Retail Consortium, firstly leading its Public Affairs activities and then in a policy role specialising in employment, skills and Health and Safety.
Michelle Gardner said: “I am delighted to be joining the Logistics UK team and look forward to progressing a range of important issues which will make a real difference to our members' businesses.”

INSURANCE RULING WELCOMED
The announcement on Sunday (21 February 2021) that the government will not implement an EU ruling into UK law which would have meant all motor vehicles operating on private land will need motor insurance – also known as the ‘Vnuk’ ruling – has been welcomed by Logistics UK. James Firth, Head of Road Freight Regulation Policy at Logistics UK, said implementation of the ruling into UK law would have been “wholly unnecessary”.
