UK government will meet just 10% of green targets, says watchdog

Findings from the Office for Environmental Protection, released last Thursday, said the country was “largely off track” to meet legally binding environmental ambitions on climate change adaptation, safeguarding the supply of clean water and managing exposure to harmful chemicals.

“Government must speed up its efforts,” said OEP chair, Dame Glenys Stacey. “Many policies are in the early stages or are long awaited.”

Rishi Sunak’s government has faced widespread criticism for the scrapping or delaying of national green targets in recent years, including a delay on banning new petrol and diesel car sales and the drawing up of new legislation allowing more oil and gas drilling in the North Sea.

Dame Stacey also said the findings were “deeply, deeply concerning” and said the country continued to face “adverse environmental trends”.

Nestle logistics leader retires after 30 years at the company

Head of Delivery, Sally Wright, who has worked in the transport hub at the site in Haxby Road since 2002, has decided to step down - but not before completing a project for all Nestle-owned HGVs to run on alternative fuels. Currently some of the organisation’s fleet of vehicles are electric and some have switched to HVO fuel.

In her final year of employment, Sally has also launched bio LNG trucks, started apprenticeships for drivers and begun trials on products being moved by rail containers and electric shunters.
