Member alert: Operation Brock to be deployed for May half term

Ahead of the busy May half-term school holidays and Spring bank holiday, the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF) has taken the decision for Operation Brock in Kent to be deployed from Thursday 22 May.

Under current plans it will be stood down overnight Tuesday 27 May.

National Highways anticipates high volumes of tourists will travel via Eurotunnel and the Port of Dover during the first weekend of the halfterm (Friday 23 May-Sunday 25 May).

  • If Operation Brock and Dover TAP are in operation, Kent Police and DVSA enforcement teams will be operating across Kent to ensure compliance.
  • HGVs travelling to Port of Dover will require a permit to access the Port. Permits will be issued at the front of the Operation Brock queue.
  • Please check the information provided by the ferry operators, the travel company, Eurotunnel or Port of Dover before you travel, and ensure you have supplies of food, water and essential medications readily to hand, particularly in hot weather.

For more details: Check before you travel.

News In Brief

FedEx turns five into two for future growth

FedEx has announced plans to consolidate its UK road hub infrastructure by replacing five existing hubs with two new automated facilities, expected to be operational by 2029.

The new sites will be located near the parcel carrier’s current facilities in Kingsbury/Atherstone and Marston Gate. Each of the hubs will have the capacity to sort 32,000 packages per hour and will handle a range of shipments, including international freight and e-commerce deliveries.

The move comes as part of a wider strategy to modernise FedEx’s UK network and streamline operations. The new facilities will incorporate advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency and handling capacity across the company’s domestic and international services.

FedEx currently operates five road hubs in the UK, although it has not disclosed which facilities are due to close. The company also runs air operations from three UK airports and has been active in the UK since 1984.

With a global network that spans 220 countries and territories and delivers 17 million packages daily, FedEx says the changes will position it for future growth and support businesses trading both domestically and internationally. The company also highlighted that the new hubs would provide improved working environments for staff.
