Plan for road closures during Commonwealth Games, Logistics UK warns members

Logistics UK has warned its members that operate in the West Midlands to prepare for road closures and restrictions in the run up to and during the Commonwealth Games, to be held between Thursday 28 July 2022 and Monday 8 August 2022.

The advice follows the publication of information on how freight in the West Midlands region will be managed during the Games.

Operators that deliver to venues will need to be registered with the Vendor Certification Scheme (VCS). Deliveries from non-VCS holders will be diverted to the Remote Vehicle Screening Site at the NEC.

Events on public highways, most notably the marathon between Bournville and Birmingham city centre on 30 July, are likely to be “the most disruptive,” according to Chris Yarsley, Policy Manager – West Midlands, Logistics UK.

“It is vitally important that our members that work within this economically important region can continue to operate and service the city in the run up to and during the Games,” Yarsley said, “To that end we are engaging closely with Transport for the West Midlands and will continue to update members as further information on road closures and restrictions emerges.”

The main Games website provides more details and links to subscribe to the Travel advice newsletter for new and updated information.
