DVSA vision will keep Britain moving, says Logistics UK
DVSA’s vision to 2030, published earlier this month (4 April 2023), demonstrates the objectives this agency needs to keep Britain moving, safely and sustainably, Logistics UK has said.
Launched at a time when the country is on the cusp of a transport revolution, the vision predicts that there will be rapid change in the sector between now and the end of the decade, including the ban on the sale of new fully petrol or diesel cars and vans, the arrival of 10 million battery electric vehicles on the roads and one in eight new cars sold having self-driving features.
By the end of this decade, DVSA pledges to make progress against five important challenges and opportunities: to make roads safer; improve services for its customers; make road transport greener and healthier; harness the potential of technology and data; and grow and level up the economy.
Welcoming the publication of DVSA’s vision strategy, Phil Lloyd, Head of Engineering Policy, Logistics UK, said: “We are delighted to see points highlighted by Logistics UK within conversations with the agency supported, such as maintaining the increased numbers of vocational HGV tests.
“Also within the vision document is the recognition that autonomous vehicles will play a much larger role moving forward, and it is therefore encouraging that DVSA is already thinking about how it will maintain road safety within this new environment.
“The forward-thinking approach to using datasets to identify root causes of issues will help our sector to improve compliance and we look forward to continuing to support DVSA deliver its vision.”
