The best of the van industry celebrated at the Van Awards 2024

Logistics UK championed the “best of the best” van operators at a celebratory lunch held at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham on 13 September to announce the winners of its prestigious Van Awards 2024.

Almost 70 guests attended the event enjoying a three-course meal and entertainment from Northern Ireland’s brightest musical comedy star Emer Maguire, while hailing the van sector and role it plays in UK logistics. The UK’s most pioneering van businesses were shortlisted across five categories and the winners are:

  • Clancy - Diversity and Inclusion Award sponsored by Webfleet
  • 101 Pet Express - Keeping Your Show on the Road sponsored by The AA - Business Services
  • Octopus Electroverse - Innovative Van Business of the Year sponsored by ClearQuote
  • Dundee City Council - Van Decarbonisation Award sponsored by Lex Autolease
  • RED Corporate Driver Training - Van Safety and Compliance Award sponsored by Brigade Electronics UK Ltd

Kevin Green, Director of Policy & Communications at Logistics UK said: “Logistics UK is proud to be honouring the van sector and the role it plays in keeping the UK’s supply chain moving, so the winners should feel extremely proud. The competition was fierce this year and being selected as a finalist is a great achievement itself. 3.4 million people employed across industries ranging from engineering and construction to emergency and rescue services rely on a van for their job, so it is impossible to understate the contribution the sector makes to all our lives and the broader economy.”

All winners of Logistics UK's Van Awards will be shortlisted for the Van Business of the Year category at the prestigious Logistics UK Logistics Awards 2024, which will be taking place on 12 December at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London. News In Brief

ADAS technicians shortage

The IMI has revealed a continuing shortage in ADAS-qualified technicians despite an increase in the number of vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance. According to the IMI’s research, 13% of vehicles have some degree of autonomy, while just 2% of technicians are IMI TechSafe registered and qualified to work safely on servicing, repairing and maintaining these complex and potentially life-saving systems. “It is vital that more funding is made available to train technicians on vehicles with these systems,” says Phil Lloyd, Head of Engineering at Logistics UK. The IMI launched Level 2 and Level 3 ADAS qualifications in 2022.
