Logistics UK joins Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander for ministerial reception
The event, at the National Railway Museum in York, saw Alexander give an address stating the importance of transport and logistics to the nation's stability and growth.
Talking to an audience of transport industry leaders including Logistics UK's CEO David Wells OBE, the Secretary of State for Transport commented: "You keep life moving. You get children to school, commuters to work, and families to their holidays.
"You move the goods that stock our shelves, fuel our industries and keep businesses thriving. You don’t just connect places — you connect people with the things that they need to get on in life."
Wells commented: "It was great to hear the minister hailing just how critical logistics is to the UK. It is fundamental to our economy, our way of life and the nation’s prosperity. Nothing moves without logistics: it supplies our hospitals, schools, factories and shops with everything they need, everywhere, every day.
“The sector contributes £185 billon to the economy every year and employs 8% of the UK workforce, and research from Oxford Economics in 2023 showed that by establishing the right partnerships, regulations and investment for logistics, the government can deliver productivity gains that will boost the UK economy by up to £8 billion per year by 2030.
“As champions and challengers, Logistics UK enables our sector to speak with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, greatly increasing the impact of our messages and achieving amazing results for members."
