Vehicle crime tops agenda at Van Policy Working Group

Logistics UKā€™s Van Policy Working Group held its first in person meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic in Coventry earlier this week (14 June 2022).

Top of the agenda was a presentation on van security by Police Sergeant Paul Fagg of the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC). Following his update on the NBCC work that relates to the van sector, Laura Moran, Managing Director of TVL Group Ltd gave an overview of the ‘Tell TVL’ online platform for the victims of vehicle crime.

Denise Beedell, Public Policy Manager, Logistics UK, said: “Sadly vehicle crime remains a key concern for many van operators. However, it was encouraging to hear from Police Sergeant Paul Fagg on the work being done by the National Business Crime Centre to tackle the issue of thefts from commercial vehicles. NBCC also supports TVL’s very worthwhile ‘Tell TVL’ initiative, which is a great example of how law enforcement and industry are working together to combat vehicle crime.

“Our Van Security Report highlighted the issue of inconsistent data collection across the 43 UK police forces; TVL’s initiative will help to collate commercial vehicle crime data to demonstrate the scale of the issue and provide granularity about where, when, how and what types of activities and vehicles are affected, which in turn will help improve police response and vehicle security development. I would urge fleet operators to get behind this initiative.”

Tell TVL launched on 15 June and more information can be found here.
