Advance warning: Blackwall Tunnel closure

The Blackwall Tunnel will be closed to southbound traffic on Saturday 24 June at 1.00am to Monday 26 June at 5.00am through to the junction with Blackwall Lane while work is carried out to install a footbridge to improve cycling and walking across the river.

Northbound traffic will continue to be able to use the tunnel on both weekends, but diversions will be in place. If travelling southbound, drivers are advised to plan ahead, use alternative river crossings, and allow more time for journeys as local roads and alternative crossings will be busier than normal. While planning routes, be aware that the Congestion Charging Zone will be in operation and many river crossings are subject to restrictions.
