Royal Mail wins Logistics UK Van Business of the Year award

Business group Logistics UK has named Royal Mail the Van Business of the Year at its annual Logistics Awards, held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Thursday 7 December 2023.

Royal Mail leads the way in fleet innovation with over 4,900 electric vehicles fully deployed, 80 Bio-CNG fuelled HGVs in operation, and two key operational sites transitioned to HVO. Electric HGVs are already planned for the future.

The company has worked with local authorities and moved over 1,500 vehicles to ensure compliance in Clean Air Zones.

Despite a turbulent period of industrial action, the company continues to put customers first in order to deliver a first-class service whilst always prioritising the safety and wellbeing of its employees.

“The panel was impressed by the scale and change that Royal Mail has delivered across its van operations,” said David Wells OBE, Chief Executive at Logistics UK.

“This change is leading the way in proving that decarbonisation can be delivered in large-scale operations in the van sector. I would like to congratulate Royal Mail on its win; it truly represents the ‘best of the best’ in the van sector.”

Amey Fleet Services Ltd was highly commended in this category, which is sponsored by Logistics UK Recovery.

Logistics UK’s Logistics Awards 2023 recognise and celebrate the companies and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the logistics and supply industry over the past 12 months and who excel in their fields.

The awards were sponsored by headline sponsor Visku and organisations including Brigade Electronics, Port of Dover, R2C Online, Howard Tenens Logistics, Endava, Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, DHL Supply Chain, Logistics UK Fuel Solutions and Logistics UK Recovery.

In Brief

ABP invests in major port expansion

Associated British Ports (ABP) has signalled a further commitment to its new property strategy by exchanging contracts on the purchase of the freehold of a 227.5-acre site known as Stallingborough Interchange.

The site has been earmarked for commercial port opportunities including automotive, bulk warehousing, distribution and logistics uses, advanced manufacturing, as well as green energy initiatives.

In a prominent strategic location next to the A180, two miles from the Port of Immingham and six miles from the Port of Grimsby, the designated employment site is one of the largest of the original Enterprise Zones in the area and is key to future-proofing the continued growth of ABP’s commercial business on the Humber.
