Logistics UK announces Logistics Awards 2023 winners who “showcase the spirit of our industry”
Business group Logistics UK has announced the winners of its seventh annual Logistics Awards, at a glittering reception and celebratory gala dinner held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London on Thursday 7 December. Entertainment was provided by award-winning stand-up comedian Milton Jones.
The awards – sponsored by Visku – celebrate the companies and individuals that have made a significant contribution to the logistics and supply industry in the past year.
Shortlisted entrants included representatives of the road, rail, sea and air industries including operators, manufacturers, logistics businesses and supporting industries, which were recognised for their outstanding commitment, knowledge and expertise.
Award winners included businesses such as John Lewis Partnership, Royal Mail, Brigade Electronics, Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd and Collett & Sons Ltd.
Jamie Sands, Group Operational Support and Systems Manager, Welch’s Transport was named the Rising Star for 2023 and Tony Prescott, Managing Director, GTS UK, was announced as the Logistics Leader of the Year.
“Our Logistics Awards showcase the skills, expertise and ‘can do’ spirit of our industry and this year’s entries really have gone above and beyond to achieve their objectives,” said David Wells OBE, Chief Executive of Logistics UK.
“This year we received our highest number of top-quality entries to date – a clear indicator that the sector continues to innovate and achieve great things for businesses right across the economy.
“All those shortlisted for an award this evening should be very proud of their achievements, as competition was hotter than ever and selecting the winners generated plenty of debate among the judges.
“And all our winners can be justifiably satisfied that they are at the very top of their game – the crème de la crème if you will.”

Government launches call for evidence on mode shift grants
The Department for Transport (DfT) launched a call for evidence on 4 December on the future of the Mode Shift Revenue Support (MSRS) and Waterborne Freight Grant (WFG) programmes.
The MSRS and WFG have barely changed since being established and are due to expire on 31 March 2025 and 31 March 2026 respectively. The government is seeking feedback by 19 January to shape the schemes’ potential successors, which will need to conform to the UK’s new subsidy control scheme.
The MSRS and WFG are aimed at promoting sustainable freight solutions and currently allocate around £20 million per year to eligible businesses and freight operators, to support the use of rail and water for freight to reduce emissions compared to moving goods by road.
Logistics UK supports the government operating subsidy regimes in order to encourage goods to be moved in the optimum productive, strategic and green way.

DfT opens consultation on proposed changes to UK airport slot allocation
Comments are being sought on proposed reforms that would affect slot distribution at Level 3 slot coordinated airports, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester.
If implemented, the consultation's recommendations would apply to both passenger and cargo-only flights at these airports. The consultation closes on 9 February 2024.
