Transaid Cycle Challenges - home and abroad


It's your choice... Cycle Kenya or Cycle Newcastle to Edinburgh. Whichever you choose you'll be raising vital funds for a great cause.

Newcastle to Edinburgh, 19 – 22 September 2024

This epic challenge will involve two days in the saddle. The first day’s ride will see cyclists set off in the early hours from the Tyne Estuary and pedal 89 miles along mostly coastal paths and quiet roads, taking in Whitley Bay, Blythe, Northumbria National Park and the Northumbria Coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The day will wrap up in the town of Berwick upon Tweed, just a stone’s throw from the Scottish border.

Duration: Four days (two days cycling)

Distance: 159 miles

Registration fee: £139 

Minimum fundraising pledge: £1,400

Cycle Kenya, 4-13 October, 2024

Duration: 10 days (six days cycling)

Distance: 474km

Registration fee: £399

Minimum fundraising pledge: £4,150

This challenge will involve six days of scenic cycling from Nyeri at the foothills of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria. Along the way, participants will experience Kenya’s lush, mountainous countryside, and stunning, expansive panoramas.

A country renowned for its diverse wildlife and safari, there is also the opportunity to spot giraffes, zebras, buffalos and more, as the route includes a game conservation and acres of bushland.

Riders will cover an average of 79km per day (49 miles), with two consecutive days including challenging ascents – to viewpoints 2,550m above sea level. You will be rewarded with incredible landscapes across The Great Rift Valley.

The package includes flights (London – Nairobi – London), airport transfers, accommodation with meals, access to support vehicles, two local cycling guides to lead the tour, plus the support of a doctor always travelling with the group.
