London Councils consults on London parking and traffic enforcement penalty charges
London Councils have launched a consultation, via its Transport and Environment Committee (TEC), into parking, bus lane and moving traffic contraventions penalty charges.
The TEC believes current charges might not act as a sufficient deterrent as the number of people receiving penalty charges has increased by 50% over the last 12 years, and that inflation has meant that there has been a real reduction in the value of the charges over time. This consultation is applicable to the roads controlled by the boroughs.
The consultation runs until 23 October and full details can be found here.
Private Parking Code of Practice call for evidence published
The government has launched an eight-week call for evidence on the Private Parking Code of Practice. The call for evidence is part of plans to better regulate the private parking sector, including considering options for private parking charges and debt recovery fees and tackling issues like misleading signage.
The consultation closes on 24 September 2023 and can be accessed here.
