Logistics UK meets with Northern Ireland Minister of Finance

A number of trade associations in Northern Ireland (NI) jointly signed a letter to the Finance Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, requesting a meeting to discuss the recent public consultation issued by her department on proposals to remove a number of rates relief measures for businesses.

"At the meeting, 2 May, each trade association, including Logistics UK, discussed the impact of potential removal on different businesses and the wider NI economy," says Nichola Mallon, Head of Trade and Devolved Policy at Logistics UK.

“We were able to highlight the significant contribution made to the NI economy by the logistics industry amidst a range of pressures, not least the rising cost of doing business and the huge investment required to decarbonise.

“Along with other business representatives, we also discussed our submission to the recent Department of Finance consultation on revenue raising proposals and the impact on logistics businesses and the wider economy.

“The logistics industry is key to maximising opportunities and growth for the NI economy, and Logistics UK has consistently highlighted the importance of communication between industry and government as a key factor in delivering and driving success.

"It was great to meet the Finance Minister. She assured the attendees she was listening. Logistics UK is committed to ongoing constructive dialogue with the minister on these and other issues impacting the industry."
