Logistics UK backs call for motorists to plan ahead, as Operation Brock is reinstated

Logistics UK, which is a member of the Kent Resilience Forum (KRF), a partnership of organisations and agencies, is backing the KRF's call for motorists to plan their journeys in advance to help avoid any unnecessary delays as Operation Brock returns to the M20 on Sunday (11 December 2022).

Booking forecasts from the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel are assisting KRF partners – including KCC, Kent Police and National Highways – to plan for what is expected to be a couple of busy weekends after the schools break for the winter holidays.

The contraflow at the heart of the Operation Brock traffic management scheme will be reinstated overnight on 12 December. Following the monitoring of traffic flows over the holiday period, Brock will be removed as quickly as possible once the impact of disruption has reduced.

Natalie Chapman, Head of Public Affairs, Logistics UK, said: “We fully support the Kent Resilience Forum’s call for motorists heading to the Continent to plan their journeys carefully, ahead of this year’s winter getaway.

“By directing HGVs heading for mainland Europe onto the M20’s coastbound carriageway, the altered road layout on the M20 promises to manage the impact of traffic congestion during what is expected to be an exceptionally busy period.”

Simon Jones, KRF Strategic Planning Lead, said: “Based on the projected traffic volumes, KRF partners have agreed to implement Operation Brock in order to protect local communities, keep Kent and goods moving as smoothly as possible and give local people the opportunity to reach their destination quickly and safely over the festive period.”

Members are reminded that the reinstatement of Operation Brock means HGVs heading to the Continent are legally required to follow the signed HGV routes to the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel. Any HGV freight trying to jump the queue, including by using Brenley Corner will be turned back and will face a fine of £300.
