Logistics UK writes to new Prime Minister about the impact of rising energy costs

Logistics UK has written to the new Prime Minister Liz Truss (pictured above left) and her Cabinet to call on them to ensure its members’ interests are included in discussions relating to energy cost increases and supply risks to ensure effective contingency planning.

Fuel accounts for the biggest single cost for many Logistics UK members, and the surge in energy prices since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February has placed an ever-growing burden on logistics businesses, many of which already operate on low margins.

Kate Jennings, Policy Director, Logistics UK (pictured above right), said: “We have called for clarity on government plans to mitigate the impact of significant current and future increases in energy costs on businesses, consumers and the economy. We have also asked for an open and honest discussion with government about how short-term impacts on supply chains can be avoided.”

To help inform Logistics UK’s communication with government, the business group is asking its members to complete a short survey on energy costs and disruption.

“The findings of this survey will form an important part of the evidence we are able to present to government on the expected impacts on logistics and potential sector needs,” Jennings said.

The survey will take no more than five minutes to complete. Any information provided is confidential and data will be processed in compliance with GDPR.
