Logistics UK's CEO, David Wells OBE, meets with London Deputy Mayor for Transport
Logistics UK met with London Deputy Mayor for Transport, Seb Dance, on 24 July. During the meeting, the Deputy Mayor thanked Logistics UK and members for our work in supporting the review of phase 2 of the London Direct Vision Standard (DVS).
As previously reported in Logistics Magazine, Transport for London (TfL) has doubled the grace period for DVS from three to six months following lobbying by Logistics UK.
At the meeting with the Deputy Mayor, we also requested better data on collisions between HGVs and vulnerable road users to ensure there is proper assessment of the effectiveness of DVS before any further tightening of the scheme is considered.
We also took the opportunity to seek the Deputy Mayor and TfL’s support in a thorough and meaningful review of the London Lorry Control Scheme.
Logistics UK CEO, David Wells OBE, said: “It was great to meet the Deputy Mayor and have the opportunity to discuss how the logistics sector can help drive economic growth in the capital.
“Our sector is crucial to addressing the strategic opportunities and challenges facing London, to make it cleaner, safer and more prosperous and, ultimately, a better place to live and work.
“It is connecting new markets, investing in automation to optimise supply chains, acting as a testbed for innovation, and is embracing the decarbonisation agenda.
“Delivering these transformations while supporting economic productivity and growth will require a close, trusted partnership between our sector and City Hall – and we want to see that partnership strengthened in the months and years to come.”
