Negotiations between the UK and Canada on a post-Brexit deal have broken down

Trade between the two countries had been taking place under the terms of a deal the UK rolled over from its time as an EU member. The pause in negotiations means the UK’s trading terms with Canada will now be worse than when it was part of the EU’s deal with the country.

“We are disappointed to see talks between the UK and Canada paused,” says Nichola Mallon, Head of Trade & Devolved Policy at Logistics UK.

“As set out in our manifesto, we wanted to see an extension to trading arrangements to provide continuity in the application of Rules of Origin. It is important that both partners renew talks for the benefit of UK and Canadian traders and consumers.”
