Logistics UK responds to Greater London Authority survey on industrial land use guidance

This week, Logistics UK submitted its response to a Greater London Authority (GLA) survey on its guidance document on how industrial land use in London should work. This guidance document will form part of the London Plan that will be reviewed later this year, after the May mayoral elections.

“We stressed the need for protections of industrial land to remain in place,” says Logistic UK’s Senior Policy Manager, Chris Yarsley

“We also highlighted that the guidance should be revised to reflect requirements specific to logistics companies, such as ‘an operating centre’, so local authority planners have a clearer understanding of the needs of the sector on industrial land when taking future decisions.

“In addition, we highlighted the impact that a loss of industrial land, close to market, would have on vehicle utilisation, as operators would need to cover greater distances to reach existing customers, making it harder to use electric vehicles and cargo bikes as cleaner alternatives to diesel vehicles.”

In Brief

Transport for Wales - request for vehicles taken home anonymous postcode data

Transport for Wales (TfW) is working with local authorities in Wales to improve on-street electric vehicle charge point provision to overcome barriers for van fleet drivers who need to charge close to home, particularly where they do not have a private home charge point.

Transport for Wales would welcome anonymous home postcode data for fleet drivers which they can pass on to the councils to help identify optimum locations for on-street charging.

Anything that could identify which company the data relates to will be removed, although TfW will still need to retain information on the type of vehicle. TfW also undertakes to delete relevant copies of data within 30 days.

Members with drivers living in Wales who take their fleet vehicles home are encouraged to support this work by supplying data for this purpose to Steve Ward, Decarbonisation Programme Manager at steve.ward@tfw.wales.

He will also be happy to respond to any questions members may have about this request.
