XPO trucks supporting Tour de France powered by sustainable biofuel for the first time
XPO, a leading provider of transport and logistics solutions in Europe, will serve as the official transport partner for the Tour de France for the 43rd time this year, but with a difference – its fleet will be powered by sustainable biofuel for the first time, reducing carbon emissions by up to 90%.
Each year, the Tour de France requires complex, tailor-made logistics and increasingly ambitious sustainability goals. XPO's teams partner closely with the Tour’s organiser, Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), to transport equipment needed to keep the race running smoothly throughout its 21 stages.
A team of more than 70 XPO drivers and other experts will transport and position 690 tons of equipment – including barriers, podiums, arches, race signage, prefabricated village furniture, and sound and video equipment – after each stage, covering 3,404km over the course of the race.
This year, for the first time, XPO’s fleet of 34 trucks will run entirely on biodegradable hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), saving an estimated 100 tonnes of CO2 and helping to drastically decarbonise the event’s environmental footprint.
“It’s really encouraging to witness the efforts being made by XPO and the Amaury Sport Organisation to decarbonise such an auspicious – and technically challenging – annual event,” said Denise Beedell, Senior Policy Manager at Logistics UK.
“It’s important to lay down these sustainability markers and deliver a strong signal to the wider logistics industry that progress on decarbonisation is not only possible, but is being used in real-world situations.”
XPO’s recently launched Low Emission Sustainable Solution (LESS®) relies on the use of HVO sustainable biofuel to produce up to 90% fewer carbon emissions and up to 30% less fine particle and NOx pollution, compared to diesel fuel.
The company has been testing biofuel for the Tour de France since 2021 using B100 fuel made from rapeseed oil.

Not all streets will change to 20mph. Local councils and trunk road agents will consider which streets should remain at 30mph and where they do, there will be 30mph signs to tell you this.
