Logistics UK welcomes DfT’s consultation on strategic road network circular
Following calls from Logistics UK, the Department for Transport (DfT) has published a consultation on proposed changes to a circular that explains how National Highways (NH) will engage with the planning system.
The revised circular also details how NH will fulfil its remit to be a delivery partner for sustainable economic growth, whilst operating a safe and efficient strategic road network.
Most of the changes relate to policy on NH’s engagement in plan-making and decision-taking, responding to DfT’s commitments in the Transport Decarbonisation Plan as well as planning case law.
However, there are also a number of proposed changes to the requirements for roadside facilities, including amendments of HGV driver services and new provisions for zero emission vehicles to address the strategic national need for more lorry parking and the introduction of the rapid charging fund.
Michelle Gardner, Head of Public Policy, Logistics UK, said: “We welcome this consultation from DfT, which follows Logistics UK’s request for this circular to be updated as part of our campaign for better parking and driver facilities. We will be engaging closely with our members in order to deliver a fully informed and detailed response ahead of the consultation’s closing date on 15 September 2022.”
