Plan ahead for Dartford Crossing closures, urges Logistics UK

Logistics UK is advising its members to consider using alternative routes or allow extra time when using the Dartford Crossing northbound between 8.30pm and 5.30am from tonight (Thursday 3 November) until the morning of Friday 11 November.

Connect Plus Services, which works on behalf of National Highways to manage, operate and maintain the Dartford to Thurrock River Crossing, informed Logistics UK that essential maintenance and repairs at the east (right-hand side) tunnel will mean overnight closures.

A diversion for vehicles less than 4.8m (15’9”) high will be in place via the adjacent west (left-hand side) tunnel. For vehicles between 4.8m (15’9”) and 5.0m (16’6”) high, an alternative diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise.

On the southbound route, the QEII bridge from Thurrock to Dartford will be closed overnight between 10pm on Saturday 5 November and 5am on Sunday 6 November for routine inspections and maintenance. The east tunnel will be used as a diversion for southbound traffic, while northbound traffic will continue to use the west tunnel as usual.

Natalie Chapman, Head of Policy – South, Logistics UK, said: “Linking Kent with Essex, the Dartford Crossing is a vital link in the strategic road network, but it can be a notorious pinch point too. Over the coming week, we urge members to consider taking alternative routes where appropriate or plan extra time for their journeys while these essential maintenance and repair works are ongoing.”

If you have any questions or require any additional information about the works, please contact National Highways on 0300 123 5000 or email info@nationalhighways.co.uk.
