Wales on the agenda as Logistics UK and members meet with Ken Skates MS

On 30 June Logistics UK and members met with the Welsh government’s Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates MS for an online meeting.

The meeting focused on the top priorities for the sector, including the longstanding ask for Wales to have a deliverable Freight and Logistics Plan.

Logistics UK highlighted issues across infrastructure, skills and decarbonisation, sharing our recommendations in each area.

Logistics UK's Josh Fenton, Policy Manager and Welsh Policy Lead, who attended the meeting commented: “Wales last had a Freight and Logistics Plan back in 2008. Unfortunately, much of the work contained in that report was not delivered. Wales and the logistics sector needs an updated Freight and Logistics Plan, that is deliverable and supports the vital work our sector does on a daily basis.

"Our members need Welsh government to support the sector with key infrastructure, the wide-ranging skillsets required, as well as the challenges and opportunity the sector faces on its decarbonisation journey.

"We welcome the opportunity to share these concerns with Welsh government Cabinet Secretary for Transport.

"Given we are less than a year away from the next Welsh election in May 2026, it is important that we obtain cross-party support for Wales to have a Freight and Logistics Plan at the earliest opportunity.

"Logistics UK and our members look forward to continuing to work closely together with all members of the Senedd."
