A month in the media – October 2024

With a number of issues that affect logistics in the headlines during October, the Logistics UK press office team provided comment and opinion to journalists to highlight members’ opinions.  Key topics covered included the Budget, the Lower Thames Crossing, the EU Entry/Exit System and the Border Target Operating Model.

Between 27 September and 29 October 2024, 211 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for over 580 million people to see the opinions of Logistics UK’s members.

The Budget

Logistics UK’s comments on the Budget, and the Chancellor’s announcement of a further freeze in fuel duty, were published on Yahoo! News UK & Ireland and AOL, and achieved widespread coverage in the transport and trade press.

Lower Thames Crossing

Logistics UK’s views on the importance to trade of the construction of the Lower Thames Crossing were covered by the Sunday Times.

Following the government’s announcement of a delay in its decision-making process on the project until May 2025, Logistics UK’s comments were included in more than 25 national, regional and trade publications, including The Guardian, City AM, MSN UK and the GB News website.

EU Entry/Exit System

Logistics UK’s comments on the delay to the introduction of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) were published by the Daily Telegraph, MSN UK, LBC Online and more than 20 trade publications.

The organisation was quoted on BBC1’s South East News, and interviews placed for spokespeople with Global Radio and KMFM radio.

Border Target Operating Model

Logistics UK’s comments on the Border Target Operating Model were broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme and published in the print and online editions of the Financial Times.

The month ahead

The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector, responding to this week’s Budget and commenting on border issues, including the Border Target Operating Model and the EU Entry/Exit System, which will continue to be a key focus in the coming months, and the potential impact on trade in the run up to Christmas.

The team will continue to focus on the industry’s skills shortages, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity, and Logistics UK’s exciting 2024 events programme, in particular the autumn Transport Manager conference series, and the Logistics Awards which take place in December.

Have you got a story?

The team is keen to hear from members moving unusual or particularly topical goods in the run up to Christmas.

And do get in touch if you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics; the team would love to hear from you.

We are also keen to publicise those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise.

And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press.

Please contact the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
