A month in the media – August 2024

Although traditionally a quiet month for the media, the Logistics UK press office has remained busy during August, handling a range of media enquiries and opportunities, both reactive and proactive.

The press office team provided swift and topical comment and opinion to journalists to maximise awareness of members’ opinions, with key topics including motorway roadworks, decarbonisation and the EU entry/exit system.  Between 24 July and 27 August 2024, 150 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for over 304 million people to see Logistics UK’s views.

EU entry/exit system

Interviews were undertaken on BBC South East and LBC on the introduction of the EU entry/exit system in the autumn. Logistics UK's comments were also published in the i paper, on the inews website and in numerous trade publications, and in a separate article highlighting the possibility of long tailbacks of traffic heading to Dover on the inews website and MSN UK.

Decarbonisation

Logistics UK featured in a TV programme ‘Going Green in Transport’, which the press office negotiated the business group’s participation in, about the sector's efforts to decarbonise, which was broadcast on Sky Business, with interviews from key members of the policy team.

Lower Thames Crossing

An interview was placed on the BBC Essex breakfast show regarding the Lower Thames Crossing.

The month ahead

The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector. Border issues will continue to be a key focus, in particular the introduction of the EU entry/exit system on 10 November as well as the first 100 days of the new government.

The team will continue to focus on the skills shortage, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign as it enters its third year, and Logistics UK’s exciting 2024 events programme, highlighting the shortlisted entrants of the Van Awards and the Logistics Awards as well as the autumn Transport Manager conference series.

Have you got a story?

If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to highlight some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you.

We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise.

And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press.

Please contact the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
