March was a busy month for the Logistics UK press office, which provided comment and opinion to journalists on a wide variety of issues to ensure members’ views continue to be represented in the media. Key topics generating media interest included the Windsor Framework, the closure of Heathrow Airport following a fire and the go-ahead for the Lower Thames Crossing. Between 26 February and 25 March 2025, 412 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for 2.4 billion people to see Logistics UK’s views.

Windsor Framework
Logistics UK’s comments on the Windsor Framework were widely quoted in the media following an evidence session at the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee and the subsequent issuing of a statement by the press office. Coverage was achieved in over 200 national, regional and trade publications, including The Independent, Mail Online, The Standard, Yahoo! News, MSN UK and AOL. Logistics UK took part in an interview on Irish national radio station RTÉ Radio 1.
Gatwick Airport
An interview with Logistics UK regarding Gatwick Airport expansion was broadcast on LBC News.
Heathrow Airport
When Heathrow Airport closed following a fire, interviews took place on LBC News and Times Radio and Logistics UK’s comments were published on the Politico website.
Lower Thames Crossing
Following the announcement by Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander to approve the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Lower Thames Crossing, Logistics UK achieved coverage on The Guardian and Daily Mail websites, Yahoo! News UK & Ireland, MSN UK, AOL and as far afield as Australia and Malaysia, as well as in the UK regional and trade press.
Drone deliveries
Logistics UK’s comments on drone deliveries were published in an article on the Financial Times website.
Electric vans
Following the announcement of changes to driver licensing for electric vans, Logistics UK’s comments were published on Yahoo! News UK & Ireland and widely covered in the regional and trade press.
The month ahead
The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector, including decarbonisation, border issues and the Chancellor’s Spring Statement. The team will continue to focus on the industry’s skills shortages, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity and highlighting the need for improved driver facilities. Plans are under way for the promotion of Logistics UK’s exciting 2025 events programme, including Operating Light Commercial Vehicles, Fleet Engineer and the Logistics UK Annual Conference - a new flagship event taking place in London on 4 June.
