A month in the media with Logistics UK - September 2024

Where haven't we been?!

September was a busy month for the Logistics UK press office, with several key topics of interest in the headlines.

The press office team provided comment to journalists and opinion formers, with key topics covered including the introduction of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), the Lower Thames Crossing and the forthcoming Budget.

Between 28 August and 26 September 2024, 247 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for over 750 million people to see Logistics UK’s views.

Coverage at a glance: the numbers

National online and printed press – 21

Broadcasts - 4

Online (transport, regional and trade) – 192

Printed (trade magazines and regional newspapers) – 19

FTA Ireland coverage – 11

Lower Thames Crossing

Logistics UK’s comments were included in broadcasts on BBC1 South East and BBC Radio Kent following publication of a joint letter from 73 business organisations to the Secretary of State for Transport outlining why construction of the Lower Thames Crossing must go ahead.

EU Entry/Exit System

Logistics UK's assertion, that the introduction of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) risks the disruption of deliveries of fresh food in the run-up to Christmas, achieved worldwide coverage including the print and online editions of the Telegraph and Guardian, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, Mail Online, express.co.uk and the LBC and GB News websites.

Following speculation that the introduction of the EES may be delayed, Logistics UK's response was published by the Guardian, Yahoo! News UK & Ireland, AOL and MSN.

Budget

After Logistics UK made its pre-Budget submission to the Chancellor, its position on fuel duty and proposals for the Budget were covered by Yahoo! News UK & Ireland as well as a number of regional and trade publications.

EV training

Logistics UK's electric vehicle training courses were mentioned in an article on Yahoo Finance and 68 North American News websites.

The month ahead

The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector. The introduction of the EU entry/exit system will continue to be a key focus in the coming months, as well as other border issues including the potential impact on trade in the run up to Christmas.

The team will continue to focus on the industry’s skills shortages, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity, and Logistics UK’s exciting 2024 events programme, in particular the autumn Transport Manager conference series and the Logistics Awards in December.

Have you got a story?

If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to highlight some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you.

We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise.

And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press.

Please contact the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
