Month in the Media – August 2022
The summer holiday period is usually seen as a “quiet time” for media activity – however, this year the opposite is true!
The logistics industry has stayed in the headlines during the past month and the Logistics UK press office has been working tirelessly to ensure the organisation’s views are highlighted in the media. Key topics of note include the strike at the Port of Felixstowe, continuing issues at Dover and the skills shortage, which have all featured prominently in the media this month and the hard work of Logistics UK’s press office team has ensured that the views of members are heard on these - and other - issues, supported by the experts in the policy team acting as spokespeople. The team achieved 437 items of media coverage between 28 July and 23 August, creating the opportunity for 108 million people to see Logistics UK and its messages.

Numerous broadcast interviews were also placed for Logistics UK’s spokespeople, with appearances on channels including ITV Good Morning Britain, BBC News, GB News, LBC News and BBC local radio stations around the country.
QUEUES AT DOVER
With the ongoing disruption at the border, Interviews were negotiated with Sky News, BBC News, ITV News, LBC and 14 commercial radio stations regarding the situation at Dover earlier in the month and Logistics UK’s comments were also published on Mail Online.
SKILLS SHORTAGE
An interview took place on LBC News regarding potential changes to driver licensing aimed at addressing the driver shortage. Meanwhile, an in-depth interview on Times Radio was placed to discuss the importance of supply chains, covering rail freight as well as the shortage of HGV drivers.
THE MONTH AHEAD
The press team will continue to react to breaking news stories as they unfold, as well as focussing on the skills shortage with the launch of the Discover Logistics Careers campaign, and support for Logistics UK’s involvement in the Generation Logistics campaign. The team will also be working on promotion of Logistics UK’s forthcoming events programme, particularly the 2022 Transport Manager conference series, the Logistics Awards, the Van Awards and the Delivering Decarbonisation conference.
Have you got a story? If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to shout about some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you. We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise. And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact Freya, Lauren or Jackie in the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
