A month in the media – May 2023

A variety of issues have hit the headlines during May, and the press office team has ensured Logistics UK and the views of its members continue to be covered.

By maintaining and building strong relationships with the media, and providing timely responses to issues, the team has generated significant coverage on topics such as decarbonisation, longer semi-trailers and border issues. Between 26 April and 23 May, the team achieved 156 items of editorial coverage, creating the opportunity for 27 million people to see Logistics UK’s opinions.

LONGER SEMI-TRAILERS

Interviews were negotiated for Logistics UK’s spokespeople on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine Show, LBC News, talkSport and BBC Radio Kent following the go-ahead being given for longer semi-trailers. Logistics UK’s comments were also widely published in the press, including City AM and regional and trade publications.

DRIVER SHORTAGE

The press team negotiated coverage of Logistics UK’s opinions and data from the 2022 Skills Report  in an article in the Financial Times on the driver shortage.

THE MONTH AHEAD

Over the next month, the Logistics UK media team will be focusing on policy related issues such as the Retained EU Law bill and the Border Operating Model. The team will also be working on promotion of Logistics UK’s new events programme for 2023, with particular focus on Fleet Engineer, which takes place on 22 June, the Transport Manager of the Year competition and the Next Generation Van conference.

Have you got a story? If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to highlight some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you.  We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise.  And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact Freya, Lauren or Jackie in the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
