LOGISTICS UK AT STORMONT'S ECONOMY COMMITTEE
Quotes from Seamus Leheny’s appearance at the Stormont Economy Committee secured more than 175 pieces of coverage, including in national titles such as BBC News, Mail Online, The Times Online, Daily Mirror and Irish News. During the session, he explained to the Committee that many trailers are being brought back to NI empty after the extra paperwork required by the post-Brexit Northern Ireland Protocol has left freight companies struggling for return loads from GB.
BUDGET 2021
Logistics UK’s quick response to the government’s Budget on 3 March 2021 – in which we called for greater investment in training programmes to help fill the growing vacancies in the industry – secured coverage across key transport and trade titles, including Motor Transport, Commercial Fleet, Trucking, Fleet News, Handy Shipping Guide and UK Haulier.
NEW VAN EXCELLENCE BRONZE PARTNER
Logistics UK was pleased to welcome a new Van Excellence Bronze Partner: Ridecell. The announcement of this new partnership secured coverage in titles such as Materials Handling World, Transport & Logistics, Logistics Handling and Transport Distribution Europe.
GRACE PERIOD EXTENSIONS AND IMPORT TIMETABLE REVISIONS
This month, the government made two key announcements relating to the timetable for post-Brexit customs and border formalities: first, it decided to extend the current grace periods for the movement of SPS goods between NI and GB, and second, it extended the deadline for the introduction of full customs declarations and SPS formalities on imports to the UK from the EU. Welcoming both decisions as vital measures to protect supply chains, Logistics UK’s responses were published across the UK media. Government and industry must now work hand in hand to make the best possible use of this extra time.
THE MONTH AHEAD
Logistics UK’s press team will be celebrating the 11-year anniversary of Van Excellence; other priorities for the next month include campaigning for action on driver shortages and proposals to ease NI-GB goods movements, as well as laying the groundwork with EU shippers on the declarations they will be required to make in due course.
HAVE YOU GOT A STORY?
If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from Brexit readiness to skills shortages, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to shout about some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you. We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise. And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact Eleanor, Freya or Rona in the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
